Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes (RMG Crane)
RMG crane are electric cranes that move on rails. They are mainly used in ports and container yards. Compared to diesel cranes, they are more efficient, better for the environment, and cost less to operate.
These cranes can stack containers higher and handle them more precisely. Because they run on tracks, they work in a fixed area but are easier to automate. They make better use of yard space and can work at night with remote control.
A newer type called Nested RMG (Double-Rail RMG) lets two cranes work in the same area, making operations more flexible.
5G & RTK Technology in RMG Cranes
Modern RMG cranes use 5G and RTK for precise operation:
RTK gives accuracy within 1-3 cm
5G allows instant data transfer for smooth movement
Key Applications:
Accurate Container Handling: Lifts containers correctly without mistakes
Automated Path Planning: Finds the fastest way to move containers
Collision Avoidance: Detects and avoids obstacles
Full Automation Examples:
Remote-controlled cranes (±2 cm accuracy via 5G)
Driverless vehicles using RTK
Smart systems that improve efficiency by 40%
Main Benefits:
Strong lifting: Handles 20' and 40' containers (with twin-lift option)
Electric power: No pollution, lower costs
Fast operation: Moves quickly even with heavy loads
Precise control: Special drives reduce swinging
Durable: Steel wheels and strong structure last long
Our RMG Crane Features:
Advanced controls (Siemens PLC/Schneider systems)
Remote monitoring (RCMS)
Custom lifting options (single/double drum)
High-precision spreaders
Circular trolley for better balance
Anti-sway system for safety
Comfortable cabin with good visibility
Special Chinese Market Models:
Our double-beam RMG cranes have:
40.5-ton capacity
45m span
18.9m lifting height
"Stack 5, pass 6" capability (can stack 4 high with top space for moving)
Special features for fertilizer container handling:
Video monitoring
Smart lightning protection
Anti-lift system
8-rope anti-sway
Automatic trolley locking
The New Smart Cabin Design
Our latest RMG features:
Better visibility for intermodal operations
Modular design for faster delivery
Future-ready for automation upgrades
Dynamic Load Control (ALC) system allows most operations by moving just the spreader (not the whole crane)
Why Choose Us?
✔ Custom designs for your yard
✔ Energy efficient operation
✔ Meets all global safety standards
✔ Faster container handling
✔ Less maintenance needed
✔ Longer equipment life
New and automated container terminals often use RMGs because they:
Work better than other cranes
Are easy to operate and maintain
Can be automated
Move containers fast at low cost
Use yard space well
In fully automated terminals, RMGs work in closed yards without moving to other areas.
One RMG set a record for handling extra-wide cargo:
Size: 67.5m long, 27.7m wide, 26.4m high
Weight: 430 tons
Cargo Size: 49,300 cubic meters
Challenge: Cargo stuck out 20m from each side of the ship
RMGs are key in automated terminals:
Stack, load, and move containers
High reach allows "stack 4, pass 5" layouts
Example: Xiamen Port uses automated RMGs for faster work
RMGs connect rail and port transport easily.
They handle import/export containers and can work automatically with smart controls.
With 5G and RTK, RMGs:
Position containers within centimeters
Plan paths automatically
Example: Tangshan Port and Longgong Port use 5G+RTK for better efficiency
Saves Space – Stacks containers high
Eco-Friendly – Electric power cuts pollution
Easy Automation – Works with smart systems
Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes (RMGs) - Key Applications
RMGs are strong lifting systems for cargo handling in ports, yards, and industrial areas. They work in these main areas:
Ship Loading/Unloading: RMGs move containers between ships and storage areas fast.
Yard Stacking: They stack containers high (6+ rows) to save space.
Intermodal Transfer: RMGs move containers between trucks, trains, and storage easily.
Rail-to-Truck Transfer: RMGs move containers from trains to trucks (or back) with precision.
Depot Storage: They organize containers in large yards for quick access.
Heavy Cargo: RMGs lift steel coils, pallets, and machines with special attachments.
Bulk Materials: Some RMGs handle scrap metal, coal, or grain in industrial yards.
Automated Handling: RMGs work with driverless vehicles (AGVs) for unmanned operations.
Remote Control: Operators control RMGs from safe cabins or control centers.
Temporary Storage: RMGs stack containers before customs checks or final transport.
Cross-Docking: They quickly move containers between rail and road to save time.
Electric/Diesel Options: Electric RMGs for ports, diesel for remote yards.
Fast & Precise: Quick movement with heavy loads reduces waiting time.
Flexible Attachments: Use spreaders (20’/40’/twin-lift), grabs, or hooks for different cargo.
Space Saving: Rail movement allows tighter spaces than rubber-tired cranes (RTGs).
